Trigger Point Injections
What is a Trigger Point?
A Trigger Point, otherwise known as a “muscle knot” is referring to a hyperirritable spot in the skeletal muscle. It usually can be felt as a nodule or band type feeling in the muscle. Trigger points are extremely tender with severe localized pain that frequently radiates out to other areas when disturbed.
Trigger points can be caused by many things such as muscle overload, direct trauma, disease, psychological distress, inflammation, accidental muscle misuse, infections, and decreased immunity.
Trigger Point Injections consist of a combination of anesthetics. 1 part Lidocaine and 3 parts Marcaine (Bupivacaine). Lidocaine will instantly numb up the troubled area minimizing the pain of the injection, while the Marcaine will help to maintain a longer duration of decreased pain in the problematic trigger point.
